How to use the UAMH on-line catalogue
NOTE: The current SEARCH routine does not allow you to find alternate names for a fungus. If you cannot find the species you are looking for, it may be filed under a different name.
E.g. Hymenoscyphus ericae is now known as Rhizoscyphus ericae.
You may enter the epithet ericae in the search field Species Name and obtain a result. For assistance with alternate names (synonyms, anamorphs, teleomorphs), we suggest you search names first on MycoBank or Index Fungorum. You may also consult the printed Catalogue or the Curator.
Tips for searching
- Enter a query into only one box at a time (except as noted under other search options below).
- Boolean terms (and, not, or) are not supported.
- If you receive too many responses, narrow your search by entering more search criteria.
- If you receive no or too few responses, try reducing the number of search criteria.
- Query Species Name: Enter the full species name (e.g. Aspergillus versicolor), the genus name Aspergillus (or part of the genus name Asperg), or the epithet versicolor in the box. Caution: entering Asper or Aspergillus will give many results.
If you cannot find the species you are looking for, another name may be in use. See comments above. Strains may be listed under the teleomorph (sexual or meiotic stage) or the anamorph (asexual or mitotic stage). - Query UAMH Number: enter the number you are looking for. Example: 5344 will give result UAMH 5344 Onychocola canadensis.
- Query Other Numbers: Search for an isolate or accession number from another collection by entering the number. Example: CBS 313.90 or 313.90 will yield UAMH 5344.
- Query Sender Name: Search this field for your own isolates submitted for deposit in the public collection or look for other depositor's names.
- Query Characters: This field allows you to search for isolates for which information on characteristics has been recorded. To facilitate searching, the following 31 characters have been selected: application, benomyl, biocontrol, biodeterioration/biodegradation, biodiversity, cellulolytic, chemotaxonomy, crystals, culture conditions, cycloheximide, diazonium blue B, edible fungus resistance testing, halophilic, human/animal pathogen, hyperparasite, keratinophilic, lipophilic, low pH, mesophilic, molecular systematics, mycorrhizae, nematode-trapping, odor, osmophilic, pigment, plant pathogen, psychrophilic, serology, systematics/taxonomy, thermophilic and thermotolerant.
Example enter laccase or mycorrhizae or the latter may be combined as in mycorrhizae ericoid. Alternately a keyword might be an author's name such as Currah and the result would include isolates cited in publications by this author and his associates. - Query Compounds: This field allows you to search for isolates that produce specific compounds (e.g. cyclosporin or cellulase). A second search under Characters for the same keyword (e.g. cyclosporin) may also yield some results.
- Other search options:
- Substrate allows you to search for the substrate or host from which an organism was isolated (like Picea mariana or spruce or orchid or Platanthera). This field may be combined with an entry under Location.
- Location allows you to search for a specific geographical location. Example: Aust will return "Austin, Texas", "Australia", and "Austria"
